IKEA Hack: This Bowl Side Table Looks Designer, But You Made It
Sleek, sculptural, and surprisingly easy to make—this side table DIY turns basic IKEA bamboo bowls into a custom, designer-style piece. It’s not the cheapest project, but the end result looks luxe and unique, perfect for styling your home or showcasing your creative eye.
Supplies You’ll Need
2–4 large IKEA bamboo bowls
Strong adhesive (like Construction Adhesive or E6000)
Primer + spray paint (glossy | matte) or latex paint (stone texture or matte black)
Optional: felt pads for the base
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Stack Your Bowls
Lightly sand each of the bowls and clean the residue. Then, flip the bowls upside down and test different stacking orders.
Alternate curves to add a sculptural feel. Once satisfied, glue each piece and let it dry overnight (24 hours).
2. Add the Tabletop
Center your wood or MDF top over the bowl stack.
Apply glue and press firmly. Allow it to dry flat. You could skip this step if you want to add items inside the top bowl and use it as storage.
3. Prime & Paint
Prime all surfaces to ensure adhesion (Skip if you have paint & primer in one)
Spray 2–3 coats of your chosen finish in a well-ventiliated area. Add a stone-texture or matte paint to give it that high-end ceramic or concrete look. Let the paint dry overnight.
4. Style It Up
Add a resin tray, a sculptural vase, or candles on top.
This piece instantly upgrades any corner, the side of your sofa or photo backdrop.
Yes, this one’s a bit pricier than your average DIY.
