What You'll Need
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Measure Your TV
Measure the full width and height of your TV screen. Then, add 1⅝ inches to the height when cutting your wood — this ensures the frame doesn't block your screen.
2. Cut the Wood
Cut your 1x2 boards to fit the dimensions of your TV. I used four pieces to create a rectangular frame. If you don't have a saw, most home improvement stores can cut it for you. I cut the ends at a 45-degree angle using my miter saw.
3. Build the Frame
Glue the corners together with wood glue and clamp them tightly. Add a few brad nails for reinforcement. Let it dry overnight.
4. Measure + Cut the Trim
Next, measure the front face of each side of the frame. Cut your decorative trim to size, using 45-degree angles at each corner for a seamless look.
✨ Pro Tip: There are so many trim styles out there — choose one you truly love. You'll see it every time you watch TV!
5. Attach the Trim
Once everything is dry and secure, paint or stain the frame in a color that compliments the room. Use a primer first since it's raw wood — this helps your paint stick and stay vibrant.
I love a crisp white or a matte black for a modern look, but you could go for a natural wood stain, champagne gold, or even a bold hue if you're feeling creative.
7. Add Elastic (for Tilt TVs)
If your TV tilts or doesn't sit flush against the wall, staple a strip of elastic to the inside edges of the frame. This helps the frame hug the screen without needing screws or velcro.
8. Pop It On Your TV
Carefully slide the frame onto your screen. It should fit snugly but not too tight. If you need to adjust, you can trim or sand slightly for a better fit.
Here's the after…
Big difference, right?
Don't let tools or fear hold you back. If you're nervous — that's normal. But once you start, you'll see it's just measuring, gluing, and painting.
And if you mess up? Sand it, paint over it or start again. That's the beauty of DIY — it's all figure-out-able.
